DVD families, please read this letter from Vince Bravo, the Chief Administrative Officer at Da Vinci Schools.
Greetings Da Vinci Parents and Students:
Earlier today, I was informed about a situation that occurred yesterday that we would like to inform our parents about in order to ensure that our students are not putting themselves in danger when dealing with the train crossing located on Douglas.
At this time, there is a train that is scheduled to come through that area between 3:00 and 5:00 pm, which coincides with our dismissal times. Yesterday, while a train was stopped at the crossing blocking traffic on Douglas, several of our students crawled over and under the connectors between the train cars to get to the other side. A couple of them also carried their bikes over with them. One of our students was even called over by her parent to cross over, and while doing so, the train started to move. Some students walked along the railroad tracks all the way to the last car and then went around it. This is also very dangerous because there is no way of knowing which way the train will be going when it is time for it to move on.
Union Pacific Police will be out there today and a few other days to educate our students (and several adults who also crossed through the stopped train) on the dangers that they are putting themselves in by crossing through or around a stopped train. For now, they will not be issuing the $400 citation that a person can receive for doing this. They just want to educate as many people as possible to avoid a possible tragedy in the future. We have also committed our collaboration and assistance in the form of communication to all of our parents and students, and providing supervision at the crossing when needed through grounds, security, or other DV staff.
Thank you for your assistance with this matter and please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions about this matter.

Students in Integrated Math 3 – Announcement
Dear DVD IM3 Families,
We are writing to inform you that there will be a student teacher in your child’s Integrated Math 3 classroom this semester. Da Vinci Schools strongly believes in sharing our best practices with others in education and taking the opportunity, whenever possible, to provide excellent mentorship experiences for aspiring educators. Mr. Korey Hlaudy will be the mentor teacher to our student teacher, Mr. Andrew Ojeda for the semester. Mr. Ojeda is a student in Pepperdine’s Education program and will take on a variety of roles and responsibilities in the classroom throughout the semester under the guidance of Mr. Hlaudy for the remainder of the year. Mr. Ojeda will attend all Da Vinci Design professional development alongside our staff, be present for Student Led Conferences, and participate in small group instruction, classroom observations and other teaching experiences around campus.
Please join us in welcoming Mr. Ojeda to the DVD community!
Best,
Kate Parsons
Principal

Good Morning Parents,
First of all we would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation this week as you encountered drop-off and pick-up traffic that was much heavier than usual. This was due to several factors, the most significant one being the simple fact that we had a considerable increase in the number of students – that is, those who normally walk, ride their bikes and skateboards, take the Metro, and any other means of transportation – being dropped off at school. In order to continue to promote the safety of our students, staff, and all of you braving the weather to ensure that they get to school in a timely manner, below are a few tips and reminders:
Again, thank you for your patience and cooperation as we all continue to work together to ensure the safety and well-being of all of our students. Have a safe day!

Staffing Updates
As mentioned last semester, Mr. Russell Stoll (previously our English 12 teacher) will be taking on the Assistant Principal position at DVD this semester as Ms. Martin moves into a new role at Da Vinci Schools. Taking Mr. Stoll’s place in English 12 classes is Mr. Edwin Maldonado.
Another change is in our English 10 position. Ms. Maigon Buckner, who was employed with Da Vinci Schools since the first year, has relocated outside of Los Angeles and will not be returning to DVD this year. Some of you may have seen the message she left to you on her google classroom. We are very excited for Ms. Buckner and the new opportunities she is pursuing, although she will be greatly missed in the DVD community. Fortunately, we were able to find an excellent candidate to fill the spot, Ms. Jimena Elian, for our English 10 position.
Our new staff members have been working with current DVD staff throughout the January professional development week. They are ready to meet their students and finish the year strong! You can find staff bios on the Da Vinci Schools website to learn more and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
