Rainy Day Traffic Info for DV Parents

Good Morning Parents,

First of all we would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation this week as you encountered drop-off and pick-up traffic that was much heavier than usual. This was due to several factors, the most significant one being the simple fact that we had a considerable increase in the number of students – that is, those who normally walk, ride their bikes and skateboards, take the Metro, and any other means of transportation – being dropped off at school.  In order to continue to promote the safety of our students, staff, and all of you braving the weather to ensure that they get to school in a timely manner, below are a few tips and reminders:

  • Never drop off or pick up students on any sidewalk, especially Douglas Avenue
  • Avoid making illegal U-turns
  • Please follow the instructions of the staff assisting with traffic control
  • Stay within the lanes indicated by the cones set out on Douglas Avenue and in the parking lot
  • Avoid dropping your students off or picking them up in the parking lots of our neighboring businesses, such as Millennium Space Systems
  • Plan for additional time to get in and out of the parking lot
  • Carpool
  • If you have to wait for your student, park instead of waiting and delaying the pick-up and drop-off lanes

Again, thank you for your patience and cooperation as we all continue to work together to ensure the safety and well-being of all of our students.  Have a safe day!
