11th Grade Counselor Presentations


Last month, counselors presented on various topics in all 11th grade English classes. Students, take time this summer to think about your future plans. There are many options for post-secondary plans, including community college, 4-year universities, trade schools, work, and/or military. Fall 2022 El Camino College Dual Enrollment Classes

Hi DVD Rising Juniors and Seniors,

The Fall 2022 Dual Enrollment Classes have been approved! The following courses will be offered:

  • BUS 101- Intro To Business (formally known as BUS 25)
    • T/Th  3:30-4:55 (Live Online/Synchronous)
  • POLI 1- Governments in US & CA
    •  M/W 3:00-4:25 (Live Online/Synchronous)

 We ask that all Dual Enrollment forms be submitted to your counselor by next Tuesday, June 7th. 

Just a reminder, if your student enrolled for the Dual Enrollment classes with El Camino College in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 they DO NOT need to reapply for El Camino College, they only need to submit a Dual Enrollment form. If it is your first time enrolling in Dual Enrollment classes, you do need to complete an El Camino College application as well as the Dual Enrollment form.

Also, please make sure the 7-digit ECC ID # listed on the Dual Enrollment form is all numbers and no letters. The CCC ID is not the same ID as the ECC ID.

Hello DVD students!

Are you interested in pursuing a career in industry? California State University, Dominguez Hills, will be hosting a webinar designed for physics and other STEM students.

Workshop Leaders:

  • Operations Manager for Northrop Grumman Missions Systems Engineering & Sciences (E&S) Maritim Land Sensors and Systems/Field Engineering, Space Park, Redondo Beach, CA

This session will provide insight on:

  • What working in local industry is like
  • Best practices for being successful in gaining employment with student internships and/or after you obtain your degree
  • Time to answer questions and provide support on how to improve your resume and applications

Pathway to College Scholarship by Parchment

Hello DVD Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors!

Parchment is offering up to $6,000 in rewards to high school students in grades 9, 10, and 11. Parchment is helping students plan for their future while also offering a chance to win money to go towards their college tuition.

El Camino Dual Enrollment!

Hello Juniors and Seniors!

El Camino College has added another asynchronous class for Spring 2022! They are now offering Business 25 – Intro to business, along with Psychology 101 – General Psychology, to rising Juniors and Seniors at DVD. These classes are completely free and will be held virtually on Canvas, the El Camino College student portal.

The deadline to apply is tomorrow February 10 by 12pm!

If you have any questions please see your counselor. Please also note that these are college courses, taught by college instructors. All students must show their counselor and administrators the academic skills and accountability necessary to be in these courses. Students must abide by the college policies, including regarding absences and tardies. 

Sandpipers’ Scholarship Program

Hello seniors!

Here is an upcoming scholarship opportunity for you to apply to! Sandpipers has provided financial assistance to college-bound students since 1941 and is the oldest continuing aid program in the South Bay. Supporting more than 50 students per year, the program is unique in funding qualified recipients throughout the four continuous years of their undergraduate studies.  View the video about the Scholarship Program here:

High school seniors living in the South Bay (both citizens and eligible non-citizens as defined by the U.S. Department of Education) are eligible to apply for a Sandpipers Scholarship for the 2022-23 school year. Detailed eligibility requirements are stated below.

  • U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen (as defined by the U.S. Department of Education in The Student Guide)
  •   Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher
  • Permanent resident of the South Bay area of Southern California (roughly bounded by the 105 and 110 freeways)
  • Students residing outside the South Bay area are eligible if they attend a high school in the defined South Bay area
  • Demonstrate a financial need

All applications are due on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 5 PM, no exceptions.

Note: children and grandchildren of Sandpipers’ members are not eligible.

Upcoming Virtual College Fair

Hi Seniors,

The California State University, University of California and Association of Independent California College and Universities are partnering together to provide virtual college fairs this October. All UC and CSU campuses, and a majority of independent colleges and universities from the AICCU, will participate.

All events are free, and students are encouraged to attend and explore these colleges and universities!

Students can register by visiting and creating an account on Visit Days. The fairs for Southern California high schools are scheduled for:

Southern California 1: Wednesday, October 6 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. PDT

Southern California 2: Saturday, October 16 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. PDT

Attendees will be able to join live sessions, watch campus videos and visit campus booths to live chat and/or meet with campus representatives.

Hello Seniors!

Apply now to be one of 150 Coke Scholars and win a $20,000 college scholarship!

The deadline is Oct. 31 at 2pm PST. No essays, transcripts, or recommendations are required at this stage.
