Announcements from Real World Learning Director (6.29.2022)

Hello Da Vinci Scholars and Families,

The STEAM Education Club for Girls is offering three virtual summer camps for female-identifying students to attend. The speakers are industry leaders who work at Honda, Car and Driver, Starbucks, University of Washington CoMotion Lab, Carvana, INDYCAR, Laguna Seca Raceway, USAA, Motivo Engineering, Shell, Navy, Pratt & Whitney and more.

FABcamp: July 6-31
Land+Sea+Air Transportation Camp: July 25-29
Career Dev Camp: August 1-5

Students that are 18 years or older have an opportunity to apply for paid and remote micro-internships through Parker Dewey. To apply, you must sign up for a Career Launcher account. You’ll then be prompted to fill out your profile and then you will be able to apply for our available projects.

Los Angeles County Free Summer Lunch and Snack Program has begun!

Come join the fun at any of these 47 locations for the free lunch program! Children and youth ages 18 and under receive a free, nutritious lunch and snack that include vegetables, fruits, seeds and healthy dairy products like milk, string cheese and yogurt.

June 13 – August 5 
Monday to Friday
Lunch is served from 12 to 1 p.m.
Snack is served from 3 to 4 p.m.

Meals are available for dine-in only at the enclosed designated areas. Lunch and snack are for youth participants only.

*Please note that there will be no lunch and snack on June 20 and July 4.

Fika Tech Career Academy is accepting applications for a hands-on, 120 hour career development course for 100 students from Los Angeles. Students will receive a stipend for their participation. Must be between the ages of 16-24 to apply. Click here for more information.

BandsInTown is Hiring a remote Marketing Summer Intern. If you are a music lover and passionate about marketing campaigns, consider applying here.

If you live in the City of Los Angeles, you may be eligible for a Paid Summer Employment Program. You must be at least 14 – 24 years old. Opportunities are offered both in person and remotely. Apply here.

La La Land Cafe in Santa Monica is offering a paid internship opportunity for foster youth over the summer. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. To learn more, please click here.

As a reminder: Fresh Films is offering a free virtual storytelling and film program. From camera to sound, while building your resume and connections for college and careers in film. No previous filmmaking experience needed. The program runs from June 27 – July 22. More information can be found here.

Week 38 Preview: LGBTQ Pride Month and Last Week of School!

Greetings Designers and Design Families,

Next week is the last week of the 2021-2022 school year – and summer break is right around the corner! Congrats to students for all of their hard work this week on their POLs. From presenting analysis on their student-created poetry in English 9 to completing dissections in their Biology class, students have been working hard to “show what they know” in a variety of ways.

Happy LGBTQ Pride Month! Da Vinci Schools is proud to recognize and celebrate the LGBTQ community this month, and the many ways LGBTQ folx have contributed to our world. Pride was originally focused on securing basic rights and later confronting the AIDS epidemic. Pride continues to be about creating and affirming spaces where LGBTQIA+ people can exist freely, without persecution.

We are also proud to share this summer program hosted by local non-profit Rainbow Labs.

One Bold Summer – A Rainbow Labs Summer Program for LGBTQ Youth
Rainbow Labs, a local organization that works with LGBTQ+ youth, is offering a free LGBTQ+ youth mentoring program this summer for six weeks. Their “One Bold Summer” mentoring program pairs LGBTQ+ youth in groups with two mentors for their Storytelling Lab and Accelerator Lab. Applications have been extend are due this Sunday, June 5th.
  • Program Dates: June 20 – July 31
  • Program Days/Times: 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM. Mondays (In Person) & Wednesdays (Virtual.) You must attend both days.
  • In Person Location: Heart Of Los Angeles, 2701 Wilshire Blvd #100, Los Angeles, CA 90057
  • Overview: LGBTQ+ Youth will have the opportunity to meet other LGBTQ+ youth across Los Angeles in six weeks of fun and engaging content. Youth will learn how to tell their personal stories through our Storytelling Lab. In our Accelerator Lab, youth will team up to come up with their own business ideas to pitch to major companies such as Disney, Hilton, American and more. Throughout the whole six weeks youth will be in groups of 3-7 with two mentors

Fall 2022 El Camino College Dual Enrollment Classes

Hi DVD Rising Juniors and Seniors,

The Fall 2022 Dual Enrollment Classes have been approved! The following courses will be offered:

  • BUS 101- Intro To Business (formally known as BUS 25)
    • T/Th  3:30-4:55 (Live Online/Synchronous)
  • POLI 1- Governments in US & CA
    •  M/W 3:00-4:25 (Live Online/Synchronous)

 We ask that all Dual Enrollment forms be submitted to your counselor by next Tuesday, June 7th. 

Just a reminder, if your student enrolled for the Dual Enrollment classes with El Camino College in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 they DO NOT need to reapply for El Camino College, they only need to submit a Dual Enrollment form. If it is your first time enrolling in Dual Enrollment classes, you do need to complete an El Camino College application as well as the Dual Enrollment form.

Also, please make sure the 7-digit ECC ID # listed on the Dual Enrollment form is all numbers and no letters. The CCC ID is not the same ID as the ECC ID.

Announcements from Real World Learning Director (6.2.2022)

Hello Da Vinci Scholars and Families,

A reminder that students who are interested in receiving 5 academic credits for summer internships/volunteer opportunities, must fill out the Unpaid Internship Agreement and submit a timesheet that demonstrates a completion of 60 hours of service. The Agreement must be turned in before the start of the internship/volunteer opportunity. The timesheet is due August 6, 2022. Please email all documents to Ms. Rodriguez at crodriguez@davincischools.org.

Building Beats is offering a Free Music Coding In-Person and Remote Masterclass for ages 13+. Students will learn how to code beats, melodies, and song structure using Javascript block-coding! By the end of this course, you’ll create your own beat and increase your computer science skills. To sign up, you must use the form that’s at the bottom of this website.

Girls Making Games is offering a free virtual game development workshop for the next generation of girl and non-binary game developers! Sign up here.

Workshop details:

DVD Summer School 2022

DVD Summer School 2022


This summer, Da Vinci Design will offer summer school courses for Da Vinci students. All students with any missing credits (grades of “I/F” in a course, or missing a course due to transferring into DVD) are encouraged to take a course this summer, and some students with multiple incomplete grades are required to take summer school in order to move onto the next grade level.

All summer school will be held in-person at 201 N. Douglas St. El Segundo, CA 90245
All summer school credit recovery is facilitated by a DVD staff member and offered through EdGenuity curriculum. Summer school will be offered over two sessions. Students will work at their own pace, but must complete courses by the end of each session to receive credit; each course completed will count for one semester of course credit.
