For students interested in receiving academic credit for their internships:
Students who are interested in receiving 5 academic credits for summer internships/volunteer opportunities, must fill out the Unpaid Internship Agreement and submit a timesheet that demonstrates the completion of 60 hours of service. The Agreement must be turned in before the start of the internship/volunteer opportunity. The timesheet is due August 6, 2022. Please email all documents to Ms. Rodriguez at crodriguez@davincischools.org.

For students interested in art, film, and animation:
The El Segundo Public Library encourages all individuals who live, work and/or play in El Segundo to submit artwork for Summertime, Summertime: A Community Juried Art Exhibition! This art show will feature 2-dimensional artwork, including painting, photography, photo collage, photomontage, collage, drawing, printmaking, etc. that celebrates summer. Dreamworks Animation is hosting a Summer Speaker Series from August 8 – August 12 where students will learn about roles in animation, succeeding in the industry, and more. Register here.

For students interested in social change:
The Alliance for Girls is hosting a community-building and healing-oriented event for youth leaders seeking to bring safety to school to address sexual harassment. Alliance for Girls is co-hosting this event with Unity Council to prepare both youth and adult advocates for a new school year prioritizing policies and programs that help sexual assault/harassment survivors. Attendees will also hear from representatives from the Equal Rights Advocate and the Unity Council. The event will be an entirely virtual event and will take place on Saturday, August 6. It is open to all youth and youth champions. $15 Visa Gift cards will be provided to youth 24 and under who RSVP and attend the event. RSVP Here.

For students interested in jobs:
The LA County America’s Job Center will be hosting a Job Fair in South LA, on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 from 1 to 4 pm. To register, please visit this flyer. It is highly suggested to bring several copies of your resume to share with prospective employers!

For students interested in science and engineering:
The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program places high school students in Department of Navy (DoN) laboratories where they take part in real Naval research for 8 weeks during the summer. SEAP is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in STEM the opportunity to learn about Naval research and technology while receiving first-class mentoring by top scientists and engineers. SEAP is a competitive program with around 300 placements in more than 30 labs around the country. The STEAM Education Club for Girls is offering three virtual summer camps for female-identifying students to attend. The speakers are industry leaders who work at Honda, Car and Driver, Starbucks, University of Washington CoMotion Lab, Carvana, INDYCAR, Laguna Seca Raceway, USAA, Motivo Engineering, Shell, Navy, Pratt & Whitney and more.

FABcamp: July 6-31
Land+Sea+Air Transportation Camp: July 25-29
Career Dev Camp: August 1-5

Students that are 18 years or older have an opportunity to apply for paid and remote micro-internships through Parker Dewey. To apply, you must sign up for a Career Launcher account. You’ll then be prompted to fill out your profile and then you will be able to apply for our available projects.

Hello Da Vinci Scholars and Families,

Fika Tech Career Academy is accepting applications for a hands-on, 120 hour career development course for 100 students from Los Angeles. Students will receive a stipend for their participation. Must be between the ages of 16-24 to apply. Click here for more information.

BandsInTown is Hiring a remote Marketing Summer Intern. If you are a music lover and passionate about marketing campaigns, consider applying here.

If you live in the City of Los Angeles, you may be eligible for a Paid Summer Employment Program. You must be at least 14 – 24 years old. Opportunities are offered both in person and remotely. Apply here.

As a reminder: Fresh Films is offering a free virtual storytelling and film program. From camera to sound, while building your resume and connections for college and careers in film. Building Beats is offering a Free Music Coding In-Person and Remote Masterclass for ages 13+. Students will learn how to code beats, melodies, and song structure using Javascript block-coding! By the end of this course, you’ll create your own beat and increase your computer science skills. To sign up, you must use the form that’s at the bottom of this website.

Girls Making Games is offering a free virtual game development workshop for the next generation of girl and non-binary game developers! Sign up here.

There are NEW opportunities that have been added to the Summer Opportunities Blog in the fields of activism, film, and education.

The Youth Over Violence Leadership Institute is offering an in-person internship in Downtown LA for youth ages 14-19 who are committed to building and making powerful social change through awareness, advocacy and violence prevention strategies. You will be learning about healthy relationships, promoting awareness of teen dating violence, and enhancing community organizing skills. Apply here. 

Queer 26’s Filmmaker Club is a free 6-month program for queer, trans, black, indigenous, and other people of color (QTBIPOC ages 18-24.. This program teaches the basics of filmmaking and photography. Filmmaker Club participants will attend workshops, work on personal projects, and get hands-on experience working with shots. Apply Here.

Rooted Friends Project is a startup nonprofit in the Hawthorne area whose mission is to support young kids with sports and fitness, nutrition, childcare services, visual and performing arts programs, and more. Interns will be supporting different programs and coordinating an event with Angel City sports and USA Paralympic Athletes. Pass It Forward is an organization dedicated to serving youth through the art of sports in Inglewood. La Tijera Avery, the organization’s founder, is a Paralympics Coach who is committed to also serving young athletes with disabilities. Interns would be supporting the sports (basketball, track and field), health, wellness, nutrition, and community projects and shadowing the organization’s directors. Interns would be working at Darby Park in Inglewood as well as other local Inglewood schools. There are 8 positions available. Venice Art’s Center for Creative Workforce Equity (CCWE) is offering video editing and production training for low-income youth, residing in LA county, ages 18-24. To learn more, apply here.

Saturday, May 21st is Super CPR Saturday! Super CPR Saturday offers free CPR classes to the community. Participants receive a Red Cross CPR 2-year certification. The class is free to all attendees, designed for all age ranges, and includes lectures, videos, and hands-on CPR. Classes are offered at 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. All participants must register before May 21st. Sign up here!

😎  GLCO is awarding two $10,000 scholarships to students graduating from a Los Angeles high school by the end of the 2021-22 academic year who identify as black, indigenous, and people of color who have an interest in pursuing a career in the eyewear industry (making reading and sunglasses).
