For students interested in pursuing a career as a health professional:

The Turner-UCLA Allied Health Internship Program is a week-long summer internship for students to gain exposure and build interest in careers in the allied health professions. During the internship, students will stay at UCLA dorms and rotate through different departments at the UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center, attend guest speaker panels, and workshops, and engage in supervised student life at the UCLA Campus. High school juniors are encouraged to apply. The program is free. A Zoom Information Session will take place on Wednesday, February 22nd from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. Zoom registration and flier. 

For students interested in public relations and journalism opportunities:

The Los Angeles Feminist Majority Foundation is seeking interns for their Public Relations and Journalism departments. Interns would work directly with Ms. editors to research, fact-check information, write blog posts, and curate content for the Ms. Magazine website and print magazine. Interns would also do research, conduct outreach to media contacts, develop press materials, and promote the organization on social media. They’re looking for bright, energetic, and resourceful people interested in learning how the editorial side of a nonprofit magazine operates–from the inception of an idea to the final printed product–and gaining new feminist perspectives. For students interested in internship opportunities:

This opportunity is recommended for graduating seniors interested in tourism and hospitality. The Great Wolf Summer Hospitality Internship Program is a 10-week program that provides high school graduates with a meaningful experience that compliments their current coursework. Through an experiential and structured approach to learning, interns will gain real-life experience in the hospitality and entertainment industry. The program will include a job shadow week to provide exposure and learning of other disciplines across the brand. At the end of the program, participants will also complete a term project and present it to the lodge leadership team. Upon successful completion of the program, interns will be considered for future internships, full-time positions, and/or Great Wolf Management Development Program (MDP). For students interested in pursuing a career in the legal profession:

The Summer Legal Institute is a four-day legal immersion program for high school students across the country. The goal of the SLI is to enhance skill sets that are essential for students to progress successfully through high school, college, and law school. Scholars experience interactive sessions that will develop skills such as reading, writing, critical thinking, professional etiquette, financial literacy, and public speaking. Through a unique curriculum designed to enhance these skill sets, the SLI program inspires diverse students to pursue advanced degrees and careers in the legal profession. For students interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement:

The California Highway Patrol’s Explorer Program is designed for young men and women, 15 to 20 years of age, allowing them to develop the skills and knowledge needed to serve the people of California through discipline and a commitment to serving their community. Explorers assist the CHP both in the office and out in the field. The experience they obtain here will be directly applicable to a future in law enforcement, while building relationships – with other Explorers, in the community they serve, and within the CHP. Explorers receive physical fitness training, medical training, and organizational, and clerical training. As an Explorer, you’ll attend Community Service events, staff DUI Checkpoints, participate in a ride-along in the field, and compete in Explorer Competitions. For students interested in pursuing a career with the Los Angeles Fire Department:

The LAFD Cadet program is the top tier of a progressive pathway to becoming a Los Angeles City Firefighter. Cadets work side by side with LAFD members to learn the duties and responsibilities of a firefighter. Following an introductory one-day orientation, the youth get assigned to an approved LAFD Cadet Post, located at one of our Fire Stations in the City. Cadet Post activities are organized by firefighters that act as advisors and have completed all youth protection training through the Exploring Program/Boy Scouts of America. For students interested in arts, media, & entertainment:

Warner Bros. Discovery awards Honorships, internship-scholarship packages, to graduating high school seniors passionate about the business of media and entertainment. Honorship recipients should have an interest in careers within the corporate and studio side of the entertainment industry ranging from traditional business functions, such as finance, human resources, operations, marketing and communications, to more technical or creative roles such as content development, post-production, sound editing, and games. The Child Development Early Learning Center connects students to internships and volunteer opportunities that use individual skills and interests to support young children and serve families in a variety of ways. For students interested in STEM:

Avantus Cleantech Career Academy offers opportunities for youth to succeed in California’s green energy future through education, job-readiness, and paid-work-based learning. Youth earn $16.04 an hour while building their knowledge of opportunities in the cleantech sector. The Academy will take place virtually over a 12-week period on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 6:30 pm. Must be 16 years old. The deadline to apply is January 30. Apply here.

The Samuels Family LA-HIP (Latino and African American High School Internship Program) provides students from underrepresented minorities an opportunity to work in the STEM field. Participants are able to experience hands-on laboratory research and gain exposure to professional positions in science and medicine. Girls Make Games is offering a virtual summer camp where you can learn how to design and program your own video game in just 3 weeks! You will receive live gilded instruction, and each participant can submit their game to industry judges to win prizes. You will also get the opportunity to meet industry role experts and learn about careers and pathways in the video games industry. You must be 13-18 years old to participate. No prior coding game development experience needed! Program dates are July 11-29 Monday through Friday. There is 100% need-based financial aid to make the camp accessible to all. The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising is offering two unique summer programs for high school and college students: a five-day intensive FIDM Summer Program (for one college credit) and a three-day Pre-College Summer Program For High School Students. Scholarships may be available through the admissions office. 

• The five-day college credit program is designed for high school juniors and seniors, recent high school graduates, and college students looking to experience FIDM as a student. With a focus on sustainability, the lectures and workshops mirror actual college-level discussions and coursework.
• The three-day program for high school students of any grade has a power-packed lineup of hands-on workshops, engaging presentations, guest speaker panels, campus tours, and more—all structured to offer insight and foster passion for the creative industries.

Learn the inside scoop from former interns and their mentors in this panel series taking place on Sunday, January 29 at 3 pm. Panelists include former interns Asha Farmer, Gina Beneduci, and Sadie Shipton. The panel also includes their mentor and current art director working at Pixar, Carlos León. Fresh Films is now enrolling for their free weekly filmmaking program. In-person classes take place on Thursdays after school at the Boys and Girls Club of the Los Angeles Harbor. Virtual classes are also available. Registration ends December 31st. Fresh Films is also offering participants ages 16 and older are eligible to gain an on-set apprenticeship or paid internship. The Paradigm Challenge: The Paradigm Challenge, a competition based in Los Angeles, invites students aged 4 to 18 worldwide to submit an idea, invention, mobile app, or any solution that solves real-life problems presented in this year’s Paradigm Challenge. The Conrad Challenge: The Conrad Challenge is a purpose-driven innovation competition creating the next generation of entrepreneurs who will change the world. Blue Ocean Competition: Blue ocean competition calls high school students from anywhere in the world to take part in the world’s biggest virtual entrepreneurship competition. Participants need to complete the online Blue Ocean Mini Course before submitting the pitch and they can compete individually or as part of a team (max 5 students per team). The Metaverse Leadership Learning Academy is an initiative where students from LA County ages 14 to 18 years (high school students) have an opportunity to participate in a free 6-week Metaverse course and receive a certification. For students interested in exploring career options:

Applications are now open for the Airport Police Youth Cadet Program. This program helps instill leadership, academic excellence, life skills, and discipline into its participants. The program also seeks to empower students into maximizing their personal, scholastic, and life potential as well as providing early insight into what a career in law enforcement would be like at the Los Angeles International Airport. In order to join the cadet program a person must be between the ages of 13 and 17, maintain a 2.5-grade point average, have no serious criminal record, obtain a medical examination, and complete the cadet academy. The California Department of Rehabilitation is holding an annual week-long leadership program called the Youth Leadership Forum for Students with Disabilities (YLF). Brothers Code 2022 is an event hosted by the Hidden Genius Project meant to introduce youth and adults of color to the tech industry as part of National Computer Science Education Week. Participants will practice coding, programming skills, explore career opportunities in the tech sector, network, and find ways to leverage technology to strengthen their communities and reach their goals. Applications are now open for the 2023 Hidden Genius Project Intensive Immersion Program. High school students (Hidden Geniuses) participate in 15 months of intensive technical and entrepreneurial training through two 7-week summer sessions and one year of after-school programming. – Hone leadership and entrepreneurial skills and pitch business ideas
