El Camino College Career Pathway Programs

Hello DVD parents!

El Camino College is offering the After-School K-14 Career Pathways program for high school students. K-14 Career Pathways provide high school students with an opportunity to get an early start on college and begin preparing for a career in a high demand industry.  High school students take El Camino College classes through dual enrollment for FREE.  Work-based learning & industry exposure is embedded in each pathway and includes industry speakers, workplace site visits, industry events, and, when available, internships &/or summer jobs.  Students take classes as a cohort with additional student supports, including a pathway Student Success Coach.

  • STEP 3:  Complete the El Camino College online college application.  Students who have taken a dual enrollment class in the previous Fall or Spring semesters DO NOT have to do this step.  https://www.elcamino.edu/apply/
Who can join a K-14 Career Pathway program?  
Students who will be in the 11th & 12th grade in the Fall.  The Auto Technology & Construction pathways will accept 10th graders with the Dean’s permission.

Does it cost anything?

High School students can take Dual Enrollment college classes for FREE!  If the pathway class requires a textbook you will need to purchase it (not all pathway classes require textbooks, some use open & free materials).

How will K-14 pathway classes be taught?    

The majority of the El Camino College K-14 pathway classes will be taught online.  The Auto Technology & Construction pathway classes will be taught in a Hybrid format with online lecture and a once a week in-person Lab at the El Camino College campus on Thursdays.  Students enrolled Auto Tech & Construction pathways will have to provide their own transportation for in-person Lab on Thursdays 4pm-7:30pm. 

When do classes start?

The majority of the K-14 career pathways start Fall semester beginning August 30thExcept for the Cybersecurity pathway which starts in the Summer, second session July 6th – August 13th.  

 

Virtual Internship Opportunity for All Students (9th and above)

Hello students and parents,

Here is an amazing opportunity for students of all grade levels to participate in an online internship this summer! They will work with a team of other Da Vinci students and corporate mentors on real projects aligned to employer needs, while participating in mentorship and upskilling workshops.

The workshops will run from July 12th – August 6th. 

The deadline to apply for this internship opportunity is May 17th at 5:00PM.

This will also be an opportunity for us to answer any questions that you may have.

FREE Summer Art Classes

Hello Parents and Students,

The Academy of Art University is offering a plethora of free online art classes during their Pre-College Art Experience (PCAE) program this summer. The summer semester will start in the beginning of July and they will be offering 39 different courses for students to take. Besides the wonderful opportunity to take free art classes, every student will receive a $1,000 Academy of Art scholarship for each class they pass if they end up attending the Academy of Art one day.

The summer term begins July 5, 2021 – August 14, 2021 (for Summer you can take up to 3 classes).

Upcoming 9th and 10th Grade Info-session!

Dear Parents,

In case you missed the last one, the DVD counselors will be hosting another 9th and 10th grade family info session on Monday, April 12th from 3:00pm – 4:00pm! This info session will allow us to share important information on maintaining good grades, high school to career pathways, what colleges are looking for, college options and  planning for the college application process.  It’s never too early to begin preparing.

GRAMMY Camp Application

Hello Students and Parents,

The deadline to apply for Grammy Camp has been extended to April 15! GRAMMY Camp® is a 5-day nonresidential summer music industry program for high school students interested in having a career in music. Students from across the country can apply to one of the many career tracks offered during our virtual 2021 session. GRAMMY Camp faculty of music professionals as well as guest industry professionals provide valuable insight to give the campers the best chance at achieving success in their chosen career. Esta sesión de información nos permitirá compartir información importante sobre cómo mantener buenas calificaciones, desde la escuela secundaria hasta las trayectorias profesionales, lo que las universidades están buscando, las opciones universitarias y la planificación del proceso de solicitud de la universidad. Nunca es demasiado pronto para comenzar a prepararse.

L.A. Film School Virtual Tour

Hello Students!

The Los Angeles Film School is bringing their All-Access Studio Tour to you! Experience their virtual, 360-degree campus tour and get a sneak peek at their Hollywood studios. You’ll get a chance to meet with Program Directors and Admissions Representatives while getting a better idea of what their school can offer you. Their Financial Aid team will be standing by to help answer any tuition questions you have along the way. Did you know L.A.Film School is more than just a film school? In addition to their top-ranking Film Program, they offer degrees in Animation, Entertainment Business, Music and Audio!

El Camino College Free 5-Week Winter Courses for High School Students

Hello DVD Students and Families!

El Camino is offering high school students dual-enrollment classes to take this winter and spring! The Winter 2021 registration appointments begin Thursday, November 19, 2020, for dual enrolled students. The winter term is 5 weeks, January 4–February 4, 2021. (Note: dual enrolled students are limited to 1 course during the winter term).

This is a great opportunity for students to strengthen their skills, explore college readiness, or want to get a head start on their UC or CSU general education requirements. El Camino is offering online help and events for students who are interested in dual-enrollment with no registration necessary.

If you need any help enrolling, El Camino dual-enrollment staff are offering drop-in assistance every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:00-5:00PM via Zoom.

West LA Free College Classes for High School Students

Hello DVD Families!

West Los Angeles College is offering FREE 5-week college classes for high school students! The Winter 2021 semester begins January 4, 2020. These classes are for students who want to strengthen their skills in English, Math, and Science, explore college and career readiness or get a head start on their UC or CSU general education requirements.

Check out the WLAC HS Winter 2021 Flyer for a list of over 50 sections available this Winter term! Below is just a small snapshot of classes students can enroll in.

Students must have an active LACCD ID# and a processed K-12 Form in order to enroll. West LA College is hosting info sessions, application, and enrollment workshops to help students through this process!

  • Info Sessions – Mondays 3:30-4:30pm. Students can sign up here.
  • Application Workshops/Digital K-12 Form Support – Tuesdays 3:30-5:00pm. Students can sign-up here.
