Warning: Potential Cal Grant Phone Call Scam

Dear Families,

It has been brought to our attention that a student was notified via phone that they were awarded a Cal Grant. The student was directed to call another number and provide more information. Please note that this is NOT how the Cal Grant Awards are distributed to students. If you have any questions, please review the information provided from the California Student Aid Commission website:

“If you qualify [for a Cal Grant], you’ll receive an email or letter notification to complete the online Cal Grant C Supplement in Web Grants for Students by the deadline. Even though a GPA is not required to apply for a Cal Grant C, you’re still encouraged to submit yours because it can only help your chances of receiving an award.”

College Application season is a prime time for financial fraud situations. If you receive a phone call that feels suspicious, please do NOT provide personal information. If you need help determining if an opportunity is legitimate, please contact your counselor.
