Still time to apply to summer programs! Some deadlines quickly approaching!

Freshman,sophomores and juniors!  When you complete your college applications, how will you answer the following question:

-Please list the summer programs and activities that you have participated in during your summers of high school

There is still time to apply to programs for the summer–some of which exhibited at our Summer Enrichment Programs Fair in February and many of them offer scholarships and/or financial aid!

Women in Space Event

Spaceport LA is hosting a “Women in Space” event this Saturday 3/18 in downtown LA.  They will have a variety of women panelists from the space industry speaking and an exhibit including robotics and rockets.  The event is free for high school students (with code below). Please spread the word as it looks to be a great event.

Juniors! Don’t forget that you should test at least once this Spring for the ACT and/or the SAT!

Designers, attached is the Week 27 update. Grades 9-11, we hope you enjoyed your college field trips this week!

Don’t forget to buy your tickets to the Spring Semi-Formal dance this coming Friday 3/17. They will be on sale at lunch in the student store all week (until Thursday). Tickets cannot be purchased at the door.

Week 26 Update – College Field Trips, Summer Internships…

Design families, thank you for carving out the time to attend SLCs and hear about your student’s progress. We had 95% of families attend an SLC, which is incredible and we were so excited to see that data come through this morning. We are so grateful for the amazing investment our school community, and our families in particular, have in student success here at DVD!

Opportunities for Paid Summer Internships

1. LA Youth at Work is recruiting High School juniors and seniors for paid summer internships with Metro or in Health Care. *The students must register to attend 3 sessions. The first session is the Job Skills Workshop at USC on Saturday, March 4th from 9am-12pm

·         Students must also be 16 years old and eligible to work in the US. 

·         Internship dates/times are: June 14-August 11th from 8am-5pm

2. LA Metro is hiring high school students to be a part of their Transportation Career Academy Program (TCAP) to learn about careers in transportation.   Students must be:

  •    16-19 years old
  •    Juniors or seniors
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher 
  • Eligible to work in US
  •  Available to work seven hours a day, five days a week, during the seven week program

·  Internship dates/times:

  • June 19th- August 4th, Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Many of you have been inquiring about summer program opportunities for your students. Attached are photos of the Summer Enrichment Programs Fair held on our campus last month.

We have also attached some of the flyers, applications and scholarship/financial aid deadlines for these  programs.  Many have scholarships and financial aid available and deadlines are approaching in March and April, so there’s still time left to apply!

College Field Trip Permission Slips

REMINDER: Grades 9-11 have college field trips scheduled for March 7th,8th, or 9th. All permission slips are due Monday March 6th. If a permission slip is not turned in by Monday students will not be able to attend.
