Arbor Day Service Opportunity

Get your service hours volunteering at ARBOR DAY!

Arbor Day is a tree planting event in El Segundo put on by the non-profit Tree Musketeers. Da Vinci students (and their families!) are encouraged to participate in order to receive service learning hours. To register, please complete the Arbor Day Permission Slip and return it to Natasha Morse (nmorse@davincischools.org). Students will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the event.

When: Saturday, March 5th from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Please arrive on time so that you can get your team assignment and start digging in right away.

Why:  To improve your community environment AND get your service learning hours!

Where: Da Vinci volunteer check-in will take place on Memory Row at the intersection of W Imperial Ave and Loma Vista St in El Segundo. We will be meeting across from the apartments at 604 W Imperial Ave.

What: You and hundreds of other volunteers will be planting 70 trees and providing tree care for Trees to the Sea, located in the Imperial Hwy median. After the hard work is finished we will celebrate with a giveaway, lunch provided by Chevron, ice cream donated by Coldstone, and cookies donated by DoubleTree!

What to Bring: Tree Musketeers will provide the tools, know how, and gardening gloves. However the gloves are one-size-fits-all, so we recommend bringing your own if you have them. Please be sure to bring sun protection (sunscreen and/or hat) and drinking water as well.

What to Wear: You will be working outside in the dirt, so be sure to wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, and long pants you can kneel in. Also, it’s important to wear closed-toed shoes such as sneakers or boots you don’t mind getting dirty.

Where to Park: There will be street parking available in the surrounding neighborhoods. However, this will fill up quickly, so to make it easier to park and to be gentler on the environment, please consider alternative forms of transportation like biking, walking, public transit, and carpooling.
